Some useful tips to produce organic canopy with sandbox tools in sketchup

This exclusive sketchup tutorial is presented by Justin Geis, the founder of sketchup essential. The tutorial provides detailed guidelines for creating the model of an organic canopy by applying sandbox tools in sketchup.

The sandbox tools are useful for generating terrain models out of contours involving elevations and drape objects (roads, parks, buildings, water bodies, etc.) over the terrain model. The Sandbox tools originates from a Ruby script language extension that dispatches with SketchUp. It contains different types of tools like sandbox from contours, sandbox from scratch, smoove, stamp, drape, add detail, flip edge etc. can be applied for all types of geometry exclusive of topological terrain.
The entire design is created with sketchup make 2017. Besides, to improve the design process, some exclusive sketchup plugin like selection toys and Lines2Tubes are used.
Thomas Thomassen has developed selection toys. This sketchup plugin contains set of commands to control selection.

Eneroth Visual Merge – The newest skethup plugin

Eneroth3 has developed Eneroth Visual Merge. It is an exclusive sketchup plugin available in extension warehouse.
The plugin is compatible with sketchup 2016 and sketchup 2017.
Disguise the connection among groups/components where they connect. The plugin is ideal for disposing of those unwanted edges among a slab and a wall.
Combines groups/components visually by disguising the edges and faces where they meet keeping their shape as it is. Different from solid operation, these modifications are only cosmetic on the surface. The significance of the original geometry (e.g. what is a slab and what is a wall) is sustained and the visual mix is reset with some simple mouse clicks.
Different from solid operations, all groups and components are supported, regardless of they are solid or not.
The plugin only influences geometry that remains loosely in a group/components and avoids nested group/components. You can disguise the seam among a wall and a slab devoid of considering windows that exists in within the wall group.

This sketchup plugin is very user-friendly. Just choose the lines or edges to be rounded off and apply the three modes.

10 Unmissable Sketchup Tutorials

We all know how to use SketchUp but never tried as we think it was too difficult. And we also wanted to learn SketchUp’s deep secrets and become a master in it. So this article is the answer of all queries and it will help you to discover 10 unmissable tutorials that will tech you step by step to use it and will improve the knowledge to become a SketchUp master.
1. Just the Basics: It is not possible to learn SketchUp without knowing its basic principles. Whether one is beginner or an advanced user, it is should be known how to place and scale reference image in the SketchUp model to save the working time. That will help to become faster in future. Follow the link for video: landarchs.com

2. Simplify design with componenets: Every time while starting new software without knowing to do the tasks in a simple way is a wasting of time. Everyone should know the right way to make life easier without having modified the same object for many times. Just by using these components it will be easier to transform all the identical objects at the same time.
3. How to impact a Google Map into SketchUp: It is now possible and really useful to import Google Maps into Sketchup. With a simple click one can discover the topography of one’s site. But it is not as accurate as a land survey, but it’s just a start. The tutorial will lead to choose the location, import it into SketchUp and reveal its topography. It can be very useful while working on big properties, in the hills where no land survey is. It will be helpful.
4. Sandbox Tools- Building Terrain from Contours: In Tutorial 3 SketchUp gives the possibility to create own site topography while design, just need to work with contours (that can either be imported from AutoCad or drawn in SketchUp from a map), follow some easy and simple steps and voila.
5. Modeling Topography w/DWG Contour Map and Sandbox Tools: It is about creating own topography lines from AutoCad for SketchUp models by using contour lines. It can be very useful for those who don’t know how to deal with contours in SketchUp. Landscape architecture works with land and territory and for that it is needed to understand the site perfectly to design it correctly. Reproducing site in the most accurate way helps to save time while drawing in SketchUp.
6. Textures in SketchUp: SketchUp offers another possibility to add textures to the objects inside the model. Textures can be of help of course, but if not treated correctly then they can become terrible and a waste of all work. So practicing in right way is must.
7. How to Deal with Trees and Bushes: In this tutorial it shows different kinds of 3D vegetation materials and teaches how to deal with different kinds of elements in model. It is notable that as landscape architects the vegetation material is everything, so it is needed to make it look as nice and real as possible. It means to use some special effects in the model to make it look real.
8. Photo Match & Compositing in the 3D model: To make model as real as possible, one can add a little bit of the outside world in the 3D model, like context or a photograph. But then to match the perspective view of the image and SketchUp model the problem appears. So it is important to know to insert perfectly model into photos while keeping the correct perspective.
9. Designing with the Follow Me Tool: Landscape architecture and architecture need to be free from PC limits. Software need to deeply understood and give the flexibility while in the hand drawing.
10. How to create difficult shape in a few steps: Pc graphics are really useful and can help to save a lot of time but can’t control the creativity. By finding the perfect tool one can illustrate the designs.

Section map with Vray 3.4 for Sketchup | Mesh clipper

This sketchup video tutorial is based on the new features of v-ray 3.4 for sketchup 2017. One of the most exciting features is the rendering cuts with the use of the default sections of sketchup. It signifies that it identifies the plans of section traditions.

The mesh clipper or VRayClipper belongs to a geometric primitive that is applied to clip away parts of the scene by a simple plane. It is a render-time effect and the actual scene geometry is not revised in any way.

The Mesh Clipper can only be used to group or component objects in SketchUp (sometimes also called as closed geometry). Once a Mesh Clipper object is formed, a bounding box with a Mesh Clipper icon will be visible in the viewport around the group or component that has been selected. The bounding box and icon symbolize the newly employed Clipper object properties.

The Clipper object is replicated among groups or components by arranging them within a new group or component. The object will then obtain all related object properties.
With use of a material to the group or component, the Clipper object will engross the material that has been used and employ it and UV Mapping for the clipped faces.

Demo of TopoShaper Skethup Plugin

This sketchup video tutorial provides brief demonstration on the functionality of TopoShaper Plugin in Sketchup. Fredo6 has developed this exclusive sketchup plugin.
TopoShaper produces Terrains from the following :-
• from a group of iso-contours, that means, contours which contain a constant or quasi-constant altitude. The Terrain is created as a QuadMesh.
• from a Cloud of Points (presented as a group of Guide points). The Terrain is created similar to adaptive Triangular mesh.
TopoShaper::IsoContours
TopoShaper::IsoContours functions in the follow ways:

• Selection of Contours , normally by choosing earlier a group having the contours prior to set up TopoShaper.
• Cleansing Contours, that will be fruitful if contours are imported as DXF/DWG files. In version 1.0, the Cleansing involves the elimination / addition of contours, their simplification, automatic and manual junctions and exclusion of small hooks. An Altitude Editor exists to arrange or revise the altitude of the individual contours.

• Computation of Terrain and Preview. The Terrain is calculated on a rectangular grid. It is possible to modify the grid resolution and be able to constitute the hilltops and basins.
• Creation of the Terrain Surface as a quad-mesh surface attached in a group. As an alternative, it is possible to include the Skirt and the contour map, with or without altitude labels.
